Weird Eye Color in My Blizzard, Please Look

aliceinwl Sep 14, 2003 09:20 PM

I was taking a close look at my subadult female blizzard today and noticed she has rather bizzare eye coloration. She has no discernable vision problems. She is my only blizzard and my only leo with weird eyes, I was wondering if this is common in blizzards.

i have a female who got a cactus prick in her eye, and now it is sorta that way. except she has a scar across where the prick was and im pretty sure she is blind in that eye.

She shows no sign of having been injured and her other eye is also "funky" looking. I was concerned about vision problems, but she's never had a problem eating and responds to the motion of my hand when approached from either side.

Hey!
I am not sure if it is common, but I have a blizzard female with eyes just like that, and another with eyes that are that are that solid copperish color. I thought it was strange too, but nobody I talked to had any idea. Well now I know my blizzard isn't the only one...hehe

When I first noticed it I freaked and thought she was blind. But, just then she lept out of my hand and onto my shoulder (she's a bit fiesty) and I realized that her depth perception was fine

I dont know too much about blizzards yet, but its the next morph that Im going to add to my project. I just wanted to say that that is a nice picture you took of your gecko's eye. I was trying to take a picture of one of my females head because I think she has a skin infection and I wanted to post a picture, but my camera cant get detail like that up close. What kind of digital camera do you have? Mine is a cheapo, so thats what I get!

It's 5 mega pixels and takes great pics; I had to shrink the picture by over half and reduce the quality to medium in order not to max out my photo account.

What kind of camera are you using ? Very nice pictures !

that could be a possibility but with quality like that I don't think it would be right to assume that's photo developed and then scanned.

or, possibly an Olympus or Sony. Nikon's have the closest macro capability, I believe. The problem with that close is lighting, so it was probably taken with outdoor lighting (or lots of sunlight in the room), or special lighting such as a macro light or flash bracket. I agree, it's a great picture. I have to go look at my blizz's eyes now; never noticed that before.

I'm gonna have to agree with you Rob, although we could be wrong. I have an olympus,(a c-50) to be particular, mind you the optics are great, but real close pictures are not. with my macro function on i still have to be more than 5-6 inches away to take a good pic but that's with no zoom... maybe if i had a bigger lens i might be able to.. i'd have to say either nikon or canon, some of their new cammies have awesome macros...

I saw that last night on DPreview. I hadn't heard of it before. I'd be leary about purchasing it, though. At least Nikon has had superior optics consistently for many years. I'm impressed with the super optical zooms Fuji's have, though.

I took the picture outside, but I used Adobe to adjust the light levels so that the eye would still show up clearly when I shrunk down the image. I also cropped it. I can post the uncropped image later if you're interested.

aliceinwl Sep 15, 2003 01:43 AM

Here is the uncropped image without any adjustment to lighting levels. I have, however, reduced the size and image quality. Full size the picture is 35.5 x 26.6 inches and over 2 mega pixels.

aliceinwl Sep 15, 2003 01:47 AM

Here's a fullsize picture of the eye. I had to reduce the quality a bit with Adobe, however, because space in my account is limited.

I got her from Geckos Etc. and have been very happy with her. I hope to get a male to pair her up with later this year.

I don't think i can help you out at all, sorry. I just got 2 blizzards (1.1) and i can't see that feature in either of them, granted they both run when i come near the tanks. The male has a hide that even with the lights on i can't see him well so the other night i used a flashlight. His eyes went from solid black to copper with a black slit. I didn't noticed anything different

As for the pic..........WOW i like it Personally though i LOVE my Minolta STsi Maxxum. I'll always be happier with the images from a developed film than i will from digital. Just my preference. I have some awsome pics that i've taken, and one friend of mine (whose a professional photographer) was shocked. I'm still learning the workings of manual functions but i believe you can do so much with it that it is much better. Selecting aperature, shutter speeds, taking multiple exposures. Its a hobby i wish i could invest more money into!
I do hope to buy a macro lens soon, that way i can take closeups of my guys.

I went digital mainly because I planned on posting my photos on-line and didn't want the hassel of developing film and scanning images. I agree that many standard cameras offer a much better image for a much lower price. But, the built in macro feature and ease of uploading and editing photos made me go digital.

My camera has many manual features, but unfortunately the manual focus is not available in macro mode, this can be frustrating when the camera grabs the wrong feature to focus on. I believe the newer model has tried to correct this by allowing the user to select the point on which the camera is to focus. This model also has a rather slow shutter speed which results in blurry pictures when shooting moving subjects in macro mode (this has not been corrected in the new model).

But, on the whole I've been very happy with it.

RedQuake Sep 15, 2003 03:40 PM

Oh i agree, the cost of developing and then scanning in each pic is a pain, a good reason to go digital. I probably should too seeing as i lose alot of the quality in the scanning process (my scanner sucks!)
