Hey Guys here are a couple of pics I have posted so all you can take a look and tell me what you would think of the Garter snake Population in my area. I have visited my backyard many many times and have not sited a garter once this spring Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

There is one in the 3rd pic...(heh not really). But seriously, the best way to find them is look in areas that have tadpoles. I can not stress this enough...they follow the food. If you find any small ditches or pools on your land with tadpoles then that is a good place to start looking. The little tracks filled with water between the rows of plants would work for garters if there is a food source for them there...fish, tadpoles, frogs, ect. Lately almost all of my Thamnophis finds have been near pools and ditches with tadpoles in them as it is getting into the amphibian breeding season. You could also try putting out large boards near the water sources where there is food for garters (maybe 10 or 15 yards away from the source) that will offer shelter. Andy
