Anyone Has Problems With MVB?

Paradon Jun 30, 2009 01:33 AM

Well, today at my house it got up to 109 degree today, even hotter inside the house. I find using the mercury vapor bulb in the summer to be a pain because of all the heat. It heats up my enclosure too much, so I went back to using the regular florescent tube. I don't have to worry about the cage getting too hot. However, the MVB does work pretty well during the winter time, though. Even though it gets really hot in the summer, the winter here can be pretty cold compared to other parts of California.

If its 109F or more inside your house, you really need to be getting AC in your herp room at least. That temperature for a long period of time has a high chance of overheating your dragon, as he won't have a cool area to get to. Unless you have cooler hides for him to retreat to.

I agree...I couldn't live in a house that was 109 and would have to get A/C for me, lol!

I like to use MVB but have retired a few for the summer. The ambient temp in my herp room is 80 and even then, the MVB can easily prove too much. When the heat peaked to 98 last week, I had to remove the MVB from my tegu enclosures in the garage as well.
