OH NO!

bwoodruff Jun 30, 2009 10:02 AM

My CBB Brazilian Rainbow just died!
I have had him for about a year. I kept him well hydrated and he was a very good eater-once every 6 days. Shed regularly. He had recently eaten and just died.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Sorry to hear that, it really sucks to lose one. Typically it can be traced back to some fault in husbandry but sometimes it just happens. Where do you get your rodents?

Usually I get the feeders from a show in White Plains, NY. I am not sure of the suppliers name. Other times from a local pet store. I feed about 25 other snakes of various species the same feeders and (so far) have not had any problems.
The BRB did not have any visible signs of anything wrong. He was growing and shedding regularly. I guess I will try again.

You get your feeders from a show? They are F/T? I typically dont keep F/T any more than three months, maybe yours were old?

only way to know for sure why your snake died is to get a necropsy done. There are many reasons why it could have died, from genetic defect, toxic fumes that overpowered it, (not sure if its near other snakes or kept in different room etc.) or could be from cleaning but not letting it air dry enough. Bad internal or external parasite load....disease etc. It may have even tried to escape and got stuck or injured itself then died before you realized it was in trouble.

There are other possibilities too but most are not apparent without having a detailed husbandry and history of the snake from the time you bought it to the time you found it dead.
