Doesn't help our cause vs HR 669

I hope to god this isn't true.

Perhaps IQ tests should be a precursor to python ownership. A few bad owners make the entire industry look like incompetent monsters.

I really hope this story is a hoax

Even if this was true, how many dog attacks each year that lead to fatalities? Better yet, how many fatalities associated with deer?

Not to down play this loss of life, but responsible ownership of ANYTHING is key. Obviously there was nothing remotely "responsible" for this except that I would hold the parents responsible for child endangerment for improper housing of a pet.

There will always be idiots like this, I think we just have to respond to these incidents properly...by pointing out things like Rich said or in this case, pointing out that he put the snake away in a bag which was then placed in its "aquarium container" the night before. Who does that?

Also..it seems like a lot of the blame is being placed on the owner rather than the snake. One article implied that he wasn't taking care of the animals or children properly and could face neglect charges.

Also being in Florida he did NOT have permits to own the animal as burmese are on the ROC list.

Fish and game doesn't have the funds nor the man power to actually track down people without permits. It has to be done on a complaint basis. There are probably hundreds of non-permited people out there currently with animals on the ROC list. These types to things can easily be prevented!

No, they can't easily be prevented, because there is no way to "easily" remove idiots from the pet trade, not without placing Bans on the pet trade. And the day the government places bans on my big babies, Well, they can take my snakes over my cold dead body.
