prairie kingsnake

Well I'm a turtle man myself but everyone in my club tells me I should get snakes but I just didnt see why until today, I caught a prairy kingsnake in missouri in which they are native, so I set up a little 10 gallon enclosure for it with dirt on the bottom, some rocks in one corner and mulch in another corner in which it has burrowed under. Is this okay? I plan on feeding it pinkies, but the thing is that it bites a lot and is pretty aggressive its only about 9 inches any advice on keeping this thing and taming it? Its really pretty! I'm thinking it needs a little hide box or something so im gonna put a half coconut in there. Thanks a lot

KICK BUTT! find man,
a ten gallon i'd set it up with a heatpad on the bottom on one end(unless your room is warm 75-n 85day respectively) get a dog
bowl with the hollow underside and cut a small hole in one side
so the snake could gain entry and hide, rest and double as a water bowl, set that on one side, the other side put a used paper towl roll in there(without the paper towles just the roll)
becuse they need two hiding spots one on either side of the cage
if you want a happy snake,
feeding depends on how fast you want em' to grow? atleast one
feeder a week, when the animal gets larger feed em' atleast two a week,
and MAKE SURE the cage is tight!! they will get out!
work with the animal -it shouldwill calm down! let em' know who's boss -let em' strike then pick em' up anyway it should calm down in a few moments ,-----good luck! bro
by the way this is just a simple set up, but you get the point!
and there is a guy on that BIG auction site that is selling the
king snake manual pretty cheap, you might want to check it out?
also the care sheet on kingsnake.com is great!

I have two prairie kings. One is the nicest calmest snake I own and the other...well the other is the nastiest snake I have ever even heard of. It will bite you thirty times for every minute you are in reach. What's funny though is that she doesn't understand that the hand that is holding her is the problem. She just hangs there doing her GTP imitation and only bites the other hand or anything else that's moving. They are usually more like head butts than bites. But they still pack a wallup.
