My beloved colombian boa died last year, at about 13/14 years of age (I bought him in 95, as a subadult). I'm looking at getting a boa constrictor again...but I don't know if I want a Colombian or maybe a true redtail. What I remember is that true redtails are a little more delicate, get larger and have a slightly different pattern/color. Size doesn't concern me much; I keep retics so I'm all right with big.
I don't know if I want another Colombian, a Guyanan or a Suriname...it'll be a few months, since I've got to finish my cage upgrades for my retics, but I'm planning on using a 4 or 5' cage for the snake as an adult since I'm moving my female retic into an 8' cage pretty soon, and my male into a 6X3; it'll free up a pair of decent size cages that should be more than enough to hold a boa.
Any thoughts on the relative merits? It'll be strictly a pet, but I do love boa constrictors, since they were the 1st large snake I kept, and are drop dead pretty.
