housing an aft and leo together...

alieliza Sep 14, 2003 10:52 PM

I was thinking about someday getting a leo. Im not sure if i am going to, but i was wondering if it would be ok to put them together in a 20 gallon long. I understand that they require different humidity levels, which is probably a reason that they shouldnt be housed together.
would they have to be kept apart for a certain period of time. I know i cant put males together. so id have to make sure the leo is a female.... and i would be sure they were around the same size.
thanks for any info/advice

Dont do it. the male will mate with the female creating unfertle eggs not to mention all the stress of a egg laying season on her and not to get a single baby. There realy not compatible though they get along well.

You already admitted that this was not a good idea, so you know the answer. Since they require different humidity levels one wil suffer.

I received as a rescue group, three fat-tails and a leopard. They had all been housed together and the guy had been treating them all as leopards. Every one of the AFT's has toes missing from dry sheds.

I agree..don't do it!! the fat tails need more humidity and are calmer than the leo's. A leo may stress out the fat tail. I have 25 fat tails and 15 leo's and I can tell you that a fat tail will stress out much easier than a leo and quit eating when stressed. Then you'll have to force feed it to keep it going till it decides to start eating again. Its not worth it!
