Sick Beardie

1hope1love Jul 03, 2009 01:05 PM

I have a Beardie who has gotten sick, she vomited in her enclosure a couple days ago & is still not acting right. She shows no interest in food or water and is not active. Any advice on what I can do for her is appreciated. I do have a Herp Vet, but he is next to impossible to get a hold of..

Vomiting can be caused by many things. We need far more details of your dragon and its setup.

Basking temp, ambient temps, what type of cage do you have and what substrate do you use. How was he behaving before vomiting? What did you feed it and where did you get it (ie was it wild caught insects, new supplier, etc). Was there any temperature changes (a spike in temperatures could cause vomiting from heat stroke).

How old is the dragon? What does he weigh? Do you use UVB producing bulbs, if so, what type and how old is it?

The more information you can give us the better.

Some reasons why a bearded dragon will vomit is eating too much too fast, improper temperatures, parasites, stress, blockage, imbalance of stomach acids (calcium sand in the stomach in high quantities will neutralize stomach acids...and thus food can't be broken down). Thus the reason why we need to know everything about your dragon and the home he's in and as much background as you can provide. Pictures of the setup and the dragon will be beneficial too.
