Spliceing power cord

Omnivorous Jul 03, 2009 05:01 PM

So my flourescent fixtures have given out on my boaphile. I have had some problems wiht the parts he has given me in the past and I dont want to deal with him anymore. I am looking to replace the light fixtures. I dont want to drill a huge hole in the side to have the power cord fith through so I wanted to know the safest way to cut the cord so it goes through the wall then reattach the power plug. Should I get some splicer or just tape it with electrical tape? What would be the best way. Also does anyone know any fixtures you can get where you can buy regular reptile bulbs and not have to get specialty bulbs & Fixtures that you can link?

Best way would be to cut the cord at the plug, run it through the hole, then attach a new plug end as opposed to re-attaching the old one. You can buy a snap-on plug at any hardware store and avoid any splicing.

These 300V crimp splice connectors are nice. If you use them, cover them up with a plastic box or else leave them securely anchored to the cage rear where nobody touches them. When crimped with an appropriate crimp tool, these connectors are extremely reliable.
