Some good from gradient discussion

Last night I was shooting all the temps in my tubs before hitting the sack. After the discussion I had to do it. I do this weekly anyway but maybe I need to do it more often. I have a juvenile speckled king in a sterile showoff latch top box with a zoo med small heat pad under one end. I have never had problems with these pads and have used them on single tubs for a while. Anyway, this snake did not take its last meal and has been staying on the cool side of the tub. (71 degrees cool side shot at the same time). I moved the aspen bedding away and shot the bottom of the tub which felt hot and SOFT. 148 DEGREES!!!!!!!!! Holy malfunction batman!! The top of the aspen was still 120. Obviosly I replaced the pad and now the hot spot is 94 under the aspen. Thank god for temp guns and the discussion. Now that was a gradient for ya!!

You were simply "supporting" your animal with a wider range of temps and allowing it to choose and do what it does naturally.
