Moonglow or Snow ??

Pithons Jul 04, 2009 12:34 PM

Looks like to me that the smallest snake in these pics is a Moonglow. What is your opinion. BTW, out of the 4 different snakes in the pics the largest yellowish snake is a Snow, the 2nd largest is a moonglow, the other one is a snow, and the smallest baby one is the one in question. What is your opinion.
PS- the moonglow is the father to the baby.

More pics.. Looks like dad and son have the same heads..
What you think, is the baby a moonglow?

I can't tell from the pictures you've posted. Since the hypo trait "should" be the most obviuos in the tail...

A closeup of the tail would be helpful.

From the looks of the tail in pic two i'd say Moonglow but like LSD said, a better pic will tell the "tale" forsure. I'm 95% sure it'a a Moonglow though.

I'm leaning towards moonglow.

Like the others, a better tail pic would help and pics of just the animal in question, all the other animals taks away from what we're trying to see and all the other light animals kinda reflect into the one in question.

Thanks for your replies. I just took a bunch of pics of him with one of his brothers for at least some contrast. The brother is an anery mot. Im hoping you guys can shed some light on this. Thanks for taking the time to look and reply

few more tail pics.

Pithons Jul 04, 2009 02:53 PM

what do you guys think, moonglow or what. Also what do you think about his brother.

Ruben14 Jul 04, 2009 03:34 PM

I'm gonna stick with Moonglow but to help others give you more opinions try to get a good tail shot using indirect sunlight and no flash with no other boa or fingers in the pic so folks can see a whole unobstructed tail shot. I'm sure most will agree with Moonglow at that point. Happy 4th!

Still thinking moonglow.

Here are two I Produced this year, a Moonglow and a Snow....

Notice there is not much difference in the tail areas but the dorsal patterns are clearly pinched and almost no speckling in the Moonglow (left) vs Snow (right).

Yes, I see. But that might be one extreme to another. Can you show other examples. Thanks.

Pithons Jul 04, 2009 05:57 PM

So what your saying is I should compare the pattern to the 'hypos' and to the 'normals' in the same litter. I guess I can post a couple of pics of the siblings. I can clearly see the 'sunglow' part in your moonglow and the other one is just an 'albino', of course both with the anery gene. Also that moonglow is high contrast. Looks good.

rainbowsrus Jul 04, 2009 06:30 PM

Exactly, Problem with moonglows is the Albino and Anery gene take away the color indicators. So you need to compare pattern much more to determine if there is a Hypo influence.
