Fourth of July hatch...

FoxTurtle Jul 04, 2009 09:35 PM

These FL kings pipped yesterday, and left their eggs today.

These are from a wild-caught gravid female from the canefields that was given to me on breeding loan. We didn't know she was gravid until after she dropped eggs.

Ya know it's funny sometimes that wild females do not "show" as much as the captives, huh?

Yeah, seems like a lot of the wild gravid females I've seen didn't look very gravid until the last minute. These eggs were dropped while she was in with a male for breeding when I was out of town and looked like raisins when I found them.

I've got 8 Pinellas king eggs at 49 days now. Should hatch any time in the next two weeks.

The mother comes from an area where the kings tend to be real dark. These guys won't change much in color as they mature.

I had some dark brown adults with little light color on them for pets as a kid and some were the tamest most personable snakes money could buy. I wonder if you line breed those for a few generations they change any? Cool little babies any which way. Tom Stevens
