I need some advice about digital cameras....

ECO Sep 14, 2003 11:42 PM

Currently I use a Sony mavica for my digital pic, and although I enjoy it, and have taken 1000's of pic's, there is one thing I can't do with it. I take mostly macro shots of insects & spiders, but with spiders especially, and ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, a manual focus would be awesome...and the sony is all autofocus. SO....can anybody suggest a quality digital camera that has a good macro ability AND a manual focus option? (and just to make it interesting, can you think of one that I won't have to sell my blood and firstborn child to afford?) I appreciate any help....ECO

My Minolta Dimage 5 has a manual focus option, but it is no longer made. I suggest a site like Yahoo! shopping, which, in the digital camera subcategory, lists digital cameras by price. Once you find a model with a manual focus option, in a price range you can afford, then go to Steve's Digicams website, and find that model. He will have an exhaustive review on it. If there are any problems, he will bring it up, too. Then, go to Bizrate.com, and put the make and model of camera into its search engine, and it will search the internet for online camera stores, and list the camera by descending price.

I just got a Nikon coolpix 4500. See the previous post of honred lizards. It has awesome macro and a manual focus. I got mine new off of Ebay for $355. The Nikon coolpix 5700 is even better but more money.

I have a Pentax optio 230, 2 megapixel. I got it on sale for $150, and it has macro, and manual focus. You can get a 3.2 megapixel one for $200 if you shop around alot.

Want to take spiders pics huh? Any of the coolpix series do great on macro. This one is far from my best one but it gives a good idea the slings here are around 1/8 inch.
