2006 girl died today... (graphic)

BoaGal Jul 05, 2009 06:19 PM

I don't know what happened, I came home and she was dead. She hadn't eaten in the past few weeks, but I didn't think that was anything to worry about. Can anyone tell me from the pictures why she died? Should I be worried about my other boas?

I moved her to get a better shot of her mouth

Unfortunately, only a necropsy will reveal the cause of death, and if nothing is visibly apparent in the initial necropsy, then usually Pathology testing is needed.

Sorry for your loss.

Put her in the frige not freezer wrap her in moist paper
towels put her in a plastic bag and place in the refrigerator
Then call your vet so you can drop her off for Necropsy
and tissue Pathology.
This is the only way you will gain info and piece of mind that
the rest of your collection is fine or in danger.

That my reptile vet can't do a necropsy on her. I've never been to this vet before, but I called this morning to make an appointment. Also, my albino male isn't eating and is starting to look VERY skinny so I wanted to take him in too. Found out that I have to put $100 deposit down just to make an appointment since I haven't been there before. And she can't see me until July 17th. I haven't made the appointment yet because I didn't want to give them my credit card over the phone.

I don't know if I will go in and put $100 down, sounds ridiculous to me and she can't even see me for a week and a half? Does that sound right to you guys?

I guess I need some info on how to force feed my albino male. Do I just open his mouth with my hands and put the rat in?

Thanks for the help and sympathy!

Sorry about your loss, that is terrible. Was your albino male in with that female at all? He could have stopped eating because of being on breeding mode. If he was with her, I would quarantine him right away just as a precaution, in case he does have something that he could have caught from her.

As far as force feeding goes, usually it is done via a feeding tube that is inserted into the snakes stomach through its mouth. Then a wet dog food like mixture is squeezed down the tube using a syringe. But that is only as a last resort, if your animal has not been eating for awhile. You need to take him to a good reptile vet and have him/her look him over and asses the proper course of action, I am by no means a vet.

Good reptile vets are sometimes hard to find, you might want to check with some neighboring towns and see if you can find a good vet that can see you sooner.

Found a different vet that can see me Wednesday. Might be able to do the necropsy too. I'm glad I kept looking, I was discouraged after I called the first vet and I didn't realize there were any others close by. Hopefully it's a good vet that can help me out.

Again, thanks for your help guys!

As for your male I hve a couple picky eaters after breeding season and I have found that they take live rat pups pretty well and I then folow with their normal sized FT rat...good luck.
