Something New from something Old

vin russo Jul 06, 2009 10:25 PM

I have been producing Caramels for a few years now & I think I have figured them out. There appears to be two Caramel forms out there. One has a Root Beer type of color & this one seems to be the older or original trait first produced by Kevin McKurley at Nerd back in 1996. The other type is more Orange and was originally produced by Mark Bell back in the late nineties. I was fortunate enough to get a male Heterozygous for Caramel from the Mark Bell line back in 2001. But the male I have was produced by Mark Bell when he bred an original line ( Root Beer colored ) Caramel male to a Het ( Orange Line ) female. Making the male definate het for one line & pos het for the other. Well I bred my Poss double het to a few normal females & kept all the female offspring back in 2002. I then bred the Poss double het male back to these daughters starting in 2005 and produced both types of Caramels from these daughters & a New third type. I am quite sure now that the third type is a double homozygous Caramel. I am calling this double homozygous Caramel by the name of a Camarillo. This name is a combination of Caramel and Amarillo ( which means Yellow in Spanish ).

Wow. That's incredible. Looks like a banana caramel glow. Who would've guessed a double homozygous caramel would look like that?

Great job.

Vin You and Crider are the only ones producing that line of snakes. Mark Bell never produced any but bred his line to Ernie Wagners het females and they produced no caramels thus they must have figured Wagners snake was not hereditary. It also should be noted that future breedings may confirm that Ultramels and VPIs Burgundy Albino may be the same morph as the Crider/Russo/Wagner line animals. I am glad you finally went public with these and for any help I offered you in figuring out what was up with this project.

Wow, Vin! That combo is awesome! Now, to cross that with a Hypo, the Carmamillo Glow would really blow the others out of the water. I currently don't have any Caramels but am now seriously considering taking your route instead of deciding on one line or the other.
