Big - uns.......

rainbowsrus Jul 07, 2009 11:55 AM

Looks like all my BRB breeding is done and the first litter is just around the corner. So I took pics for my "Big-Uns" calendar. Problem is I have too many girls and not enough months for them all. Such a tough problem, oh what to do

Two pics of each, one without and one with flash. Taken on an attempted feeding day and as you can see, only a few ate - very god sign IMO

Pity the hypo x hypo doesnt look to have taken. Having a whole clutch of hypos and having to pick your holdbacks would be hard

Do you find that the females, that did take a rat, and ARE gravid, and the seems ones that will take food each time offered?

They all looking stunning as usual

good to see you saved this post, i saw it a day ago, but then it got taken down? why do some posts disappear, cant imagine there was anything in there going against the TOS.

cheers

She's always been a slow grower and just barely large enough to breed so maybe for the best??

Most times my gravid females will refuse meals, no interest at all. To the point those that due eat are suspect for not being gravid. I have had females take meals and still be gravid, just not common for me. Part of it I'm sure is for the most part my females are ready for breeding season and not needing any more calories.

i guess the longer they wait, and the bigger they are the better though.

out of interest now, i see you have a few 06s now that are gravid. For the 07s that you get ready for this next winter. what kind of weight would they be at now for the females, that you find acceptable? ie the 07s that you think you will be able to breed in the 09/10 season

cheers

Intersting point, never really tracked it that way. I do have '07 females more or less at 1KG now that I believe will be good to go for 09/10 (1.5 KG) I have enough females I will select who I want breed by how they have reovered (proven breeders) and how they look/weigh (new breeders) My plans are to NOT necessarily breed every available female. Will limit the pairings to something based on experience from prior years like this year may show me what too many is, maybe not..

was pretty much what i was thinking. I have some older girls that will definetely get bred this year. Virgins who are at like 3500grams!! they big. But also have 2 early 07 girls at about 1100-1300 now. Im pretty sure i will attempt to bred them, as i think they will be at 1600-1800grams plus. From my limited knowledge, its seems that my brbs have taken a long time to get to like 500grams, but once there and able to take much bigger prey they gain weight much much quicker.

yeah you probably looking at 300 babies plus this year dave, maybe even if your snakes dont need a year off, breeding next year, you will!!!

Wow Dave, and I thought you had your hands full last year! You are going to break the 300 mark I bet. Good luck!
