what watt bulb?

epicreptiles Jul 07, 2009 01:01 PM

hey i got some baby ball pythons and they are in a 2'x2'x2' vision and i was using a 50 watt bulb for the basking area and it hit 114.2 degrees i turned it off imediatley cuz the ambient of my house during the day is always 80 or a little higher and night is no lower then 75 but for a basking bulb for 24 hour use should i use a 25 watt ceramic? and i have a 50 watt ceramic on my redtails in 4'x2'x2' and they seem to be doing great but should i bump it up some?

114F is quite hot for a red tail boa. I"d suggest a dimmer or rheostat for both enclosures.

thanks yeah the bulb was only on for an hour i look into the dimmer cuz the ceramic 50 watt i have the basking is too hot but every where else in the cage is perfect for them so i'll definantly look for those.

You can either build one into the enclosure, or look for a plug in one at a home reno store. I think Zoomed makes one as well.

A dimmer rheostat or start playing with some lower wattage bulbs. The rheostat will be the simple way to go. The other route is more trial and error, but you would have extras available for other additions later on.
