FINALLY!!

waspinator421 Jul 07, 2009 04:25 PM

Well I have been going nuts over here with my eggs just not wanting to hatch and it being so late in the incubation. This morning I came home to find that Damien and Miss Bianca's clutch had started to hatch. They are at day 79!

The other egg from the first clutch of two good eggs where the one was dead has not hatched yet and it is at day 81.

Here are a couple pics I took. Looks like one didn't want to wait! (happy dance!)

Thanks again to everyone for all your help and support! I feel much better now that I actually have a couple hatching. Hopefully the rest of the eggs will start to follow suit.

Congratulations Aubrey,
Patience pays off. I'd love to see them after they shed. I believe you may still see your other eggs hatch out.

I have never used an incubator. I just leave the eggs in the warmest part of the house. Temperatures can go from the mid 60's for the low in the spring to the upper 80's for the high in summer. I have had snakes hatch anywhere from 60 to almost 90 days after the eggs were laid. Last year it was over 80 days.

I'm at day 70 and 72 right now with two clutches. I'm at the point where I'm checking them several times a day, but I know it could be another week, or two.

Thanks Greg, I will definetley be posting pics after they shed.

Wow... you had soem go to 90 days?! I don't think I'd have any hair left if mine took that long! Good to know that they can still hatch at 90 days though!

My first clutch (green x green) was laid May 12 and has been incubating at 77-78F. So if I account for lower temps, I am expecting them to start hatching around 68-75 days. That would put the dates between July 20-27. My second clutch was laid May 27. The third was laid June 7. The fourth female has spent the last 2 days in her nest box (fingers crossed).

On a side note, I got my first clutch of Sonoran Gophers last night. First pairing attempt for these two young animals. She laid 6 eggs....5 slugs and a maybe. Not unexpected for a first time female, but we'll see what the lone good egg does. Congrats again Aubrey. Pics required!

Congrats on your Sonoran clutch as well! I love Pits... so feisty and full of personality. I'm looking forward to seeing what pops out of your Thayeri eggs.

All have now hatched from that one clutch. Total of 12 babies, but one has a deformaty. We will see if it makes it. Will definetly post pics of them all after they shed.

Hey Aubrey -- patience can and often does pay off. Congratulations on your hatchlings. Be sure to post pics when all have had their first shed. Have fun! That's what it's all about.

Thank you Tom! Yeah, I hate the 'patient' part, lol. It is definetly worth the wait, though. I will snap some pics once they all have shed.

waspinator421 Jul 14, 2009 03:53 AM

Thank you! Yeah, this has been so much fun watching them hatch. Each one is a little surprise... it so neat how varied they can be! I got a couple pinners, some more average looking leonis' and even an intermediate in this clutch!
