Since this little child was killed, our local senator (FL) is now on a mission. Personally, I have no issues with regulating large dangerous reptiles. But I feel a "sweeping" reform will take place and all reptiles will be outlawed.

I honestly totally agree...it won't surprise me in the least when it happens. This is anything BUT a "free" country and those little "rights" they make us believe we have can be taken away very easily.

And I also completely stand behind what I've said all along...NOTHING will stop me from keeping, breeding and shipping my snakes. The government/paranoid morons (is there actually a difference?) can kiss my ass. Call it what you want, but I just don't care.

Lets ban horeses and dogs they kill more humans than snakes do. The dog and horse owners would not stand still for this.We had better put up a fight or just move to Russia.

Exactly!...,and the annual number of deaths due to motorcycles is massive in comparison..Yet they are still legal as long as you wear a helmet!!

75 percent of accidents in the home occur in the bathroom. So, for safety reasons, if you need to shower, brush your teeth, relieve yourself, etc., you should head outdoors. Unless you live in Florida, cause one of those 40 foot man eating pythons might get you.

CaliRepGuy Jul 08, 2009 06:22 PM

Motorcycles do not kill people! Idiot drivers and riders do!

Car accidents result in MANY more fatalities than motorcycles.

Thanx

POINT !!!!!!!!!!! Stupid people should be banned.Laws do not protect us from stupid people, they drive drunk without a drivers license, they do drive by shootings, sell drugs to our kids and when they get caught we pay, and then they get out and do it all over again.Law makers can not solve these problems so lets make new laws.I know ban all pythons.

wstreps Jul 08, 2009 09:10 PM

In Florida you need a microchip for your python but you don`t have to wear a helmet to ride a motorcycle.

Take a gallon of water and put a hundredth of a drop of food coloring in it, that would represent the negative impact pythons have had on everyday society.

Florida is ether leading or close to the top in the nation for .......violent crime , drug and alcohol abuse , auto deaths , unemployment, home foreclosures, street gang violence , suicide rate , the country's worst educational systems .............etc.

If Senator Bill Nelson has any free time or money on his hands he should be focusing it on the real issues that effect every day life for everyone who lives here.

Speaking of Dogs -- why is it when a poorly kept, starved to death dog turns on it's stupid owner people feel bad for the dog -- but if it's a snake they damn the snake and everyone that owns them?

Because dogs are fuzzy and they can fetch a stick and they're loyal, yada yada yada, while snakes are mindless killing machines that don't belong around people. At least that seems to be the common opinion among the ignorant and ill informed.

Oddly enough - his closing statement was that he wasn't asking to ban all constrictors -- "just this one" -- in reference to the Burmese Python.

Senator Nelson is making several false statements. But the true details will never get to the average person.

"If" passed this would be another law on the books that isn't really enforced just becomes an issue if the person has something else go wrong.

of everyone coming together to help fight for what we have worked for for the past 30 years.

PLEASE JOIN USARK (and I don't recall that I have ever asked anyone in the reptile community to do anything, other than make sure all the women in their lives get a mammogram). The organization has come a long way and and the individuals behind it have spent 24/7 working on your behalf.

When called on, help state by state to inform the committee members and other legislators that WE are the voting public and we will vote on a single issue.

Be positive not negative. Help whenever you can. Contribute and be a member at any level you can afford.

No one has asked me to write this-

I just want to have everyone move forward, be positive, and do what we need to do to preserve the right to keep reptiles for all of us and for future generations.

Thanks for the huge dose of negativity. Does one child die in a car accident and the cars get outlawed? Does one child die from a gun shot and all guns are banned? Most people have more sense than that but it does not help when @#$% let a snake with improper caging kill a small child. The owner of the snake should be charged with negligent homicide.

geckobabies Jul 09, 2009 02:36 PM

Yes, many things kill and do way more damage then reptiles....

BUT....

People ("the public" LIKE cars... dogs... guns (rolls eyes).. swimming pools.. and everything else that causes a lot of harm to people and children.

Most people HATE snakes and reptiles. It will only take a little negativity to go a VERY LONG WAY in our industry. That is what's going to make this fight very difficult.
