I have'nt a clue

bigtman Jul 09, 2009 05:31 AM

It’s a sad morning for me I went to check on my snakes and found that my female burm was dead. I don’t know what happened I have had her for over six years, she was right around 15’ and about 100 lbs maybe a little less. The last time I went to feed her about a week ago she didn’t eat. I thought that maybe it just was one of those days. But she is the one that would eat anything I gave her. I feed her two 5lbs rabbits at a time every two weeks. I like feeding her that way instead of one big one. So I really don’t know what happened. My cage setup is right I have had snake for over 10 years now. And I have never had one die on me. It is just heart braking. Last year I thought about breeding her, but after reading a few post and looking into it I had decided not to. But she was my pet first so not breeding her was no big deal to me. I came on here because I know that you would understand my loss, were some of my friends will just say it’s just a snake. thanks for reading this and if anyone has any idea’s on what could have happened please let me know

Thanks Tom

Tom,

I know how you are feeling. When my first Burmese Python died (early 90's) it was very upsetting. Still is when I lose an animal these days. I have an ailing Retic and I don't know that I'll be able to save her at this point. It is gut wrenching to me. I have a great reptile vet (Dr. Greek), but we still can't seem to get her over the hump.

Unfortunately, it is part of keeping these animals.

I am very sorry to hear about this.

Take care,
Rick

I feel for your loss. My Burm is 12yo and he has chronic kidney disease, probably from improper care during his first 10 years with his previous owner. I often wonder how long I'll have him. He's 12ft and hangs around 50 lbs. He always seems thin to me and I can never quite put weight on him. One day it'll be me coming here to make that post.

I'm truly sorry about your loss. Wish I had an answer, or even an educated guess, as to what could've caused her death, but sometimes there are things outside of our control that sneak in and take them from us.

Hang in there!
