injured milk snake! meds???

Jayson745 Jul 09, 2009 11:00 AM

I found a 3ft eastern milk snake on a bike trail that looks like someone ran over its back end. Its hole is basically ripped open, and looking pretty infected. I'd like to help get this guy back to health if possible. I'm wondering if I should put antibiotic cream made for humans on it, or if I'll just be making things worse?????

You can use antibiotic cream on the wound. I mention this not as a physician but rather from a similar experience where a snake had a wound. In this case, the wound healed with the following regimen:

I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide.
Put on antibiotic ointment.
Next day, same two steps above.
Continued for a week or so of cleaning and applying fresh ointment. Snake has a scar but is fine.
