Growth Rate

Hello. Its been some time since I was here and figured this would be the best place to ask this:

I got a BRB back in Aug 08 which is doing quite well. I was just wondering if there was a way to know if Im on target for his weight and size. I did a quick search on the internet but couldnt find a chart.
Hes a little under 3 ft. long and he weighs 386 grams. Is that about average for his age? Ive been feeding him every week up until about a month ago I slowed downd to about twice every month.

The bottom picture is him at a month old.

If the snake is a year old now that size is fine. They seem to efficiently convert food into growth when young. I like to see them grow at a rate of around one inch per month when they are young. Some people grow them faster than that like your snake is growing and both growth rates seem to result in healthy long lived snakes. Changing from feeding every week to every other week when they are a year old or thereabouts is fine. Adjust the size of the meals and monitor the growth over the next few months to be sure the snake is still growing.

Thanks for the reply. I will do that for sure. There's a scale at work I can take home whenever needed so Ill be sure to check his weight every few months, its just the measuring part thats kinda tricky lol.

"its just the measuring part thats kinda tricky"

That's why I go by weight, with the caveat the animal is within typical length/girth ratio checked visually and clearly not precise.

Like Jeff said, yours is at the upper range of growth but looks just fine.

When I had my BRB for a year, I usually fed once a week for the first year (though she probably was 6-8 months old when I bought her) I owned her, then went to once every 10 days and that is pretty much the schedule I kept till she reached 3 years old, I feed about every 20 days now...usually medium rats.

She's a bit on the heavy side but been hoping to get her to give me babies this year. Not sure if she took though, as her weight's actually dropped though still feeding her same rate.

Keep an eye on weight gain..should be rather steady. My girl now is maybe an inch or two shy of 6' long and weighs 2900g.
