Some egg and incubation questions

jamesalternafan Jul 10, 2009 05:19 PM

I recently asked my vet what he recommended I do about eggs getting moldy (I had heard anti fungal foot powder and also mild bleach solution wipe). He told me that a good egg will never grow mold and to throw them out if I could. He is a very knowledgeable vet but I just wanted to hear other opinions. So has anyone ever successfully hatched an egg that was growing mold?

Also, If anyone has any info about what temperatures and how long incubation took. I am very impatient and am on day 64 of my incubation at 78.5 degrees. Should I turn up the heat or at this temperature will they just hatch after 80 or so days?

And one more. A couple of my eggs stuck to the lay box and when I carefully peeled them off it seems like a little bit of the egg stayed on the lay box (a little bit of a outer layer of the egg, I guess). Now after 40 days of incubation (the 40 and 64 day references are different clutches) the eggs that got a little stuck seem to be swelling up and becoming lopsided towards the areas where they were peeled from. Anyone had this happen and did it effect their ability to hatch?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for the responses.
James

In my experience good eggs will repel fungus - even if its stuck to a funky looking neighbor. I've heard about people treating eggs, but I think they do best when you keep your fingers or anything else off of them. Your temps sound fine. Incubation should be 55-65 days. I've had all sorts of crazy looking eggs hatch. I would just leave them alone and wait for heads...
