3 footed beardie..a little help needed??

evercraig190 Jul 10, 2009 07:10 PM

I call him "tri-pod" cause he only has 3 feet...i adopted him from a local breeder cause i wanted to give him a good home... the only thing is that he seems to be afraid to chase the crickets...he's not quite fast enough...i have even sat there and pulled the legs off of the crickets so he could eat them... im just wondering if anyone has any tips on raising this little guy..he's on the smaller size cause all of the other babies would eat the food....any tips would be great...thanks...

I'm surprised he has a problem catching crix. I have a dragon that can't use any of his arms or legs but still prefers crix as his primary food. He lays near a corner and I direct them towards him and when they get there he gets them.

Usually 3 legged dragons are almost as agile as a regular dragon. How old is he? How big is he? I'd list your husbandry specs. to make sure it's not something else making him no hungry. Temps., tank size, lighting etc.

Just put the crickets in a bowl. I feed my dragon in a ceramic bowl that is about 1 1/2" tall and 4" in diameter. They can't run away that way. Or offer butter worms (these vary from about 1/2 - 1 1/4" in size so pretty good for even young dragons), small 1/2-1" long silkworms too. If the dragon is bigger than 14" then super worms can be offered and the more larger silkworms and hornworms (up to 2" easily) These are slow moving soft bodied caterpillars that are great feeders for dragons.
