Fat Tail Baby Hatched!!!!!!!!

jeanne Sep 15, 2003 08:03 AM

I could not beleive my eyes when I opened my incubator and found this baby staring up at me!!!!! Isn't he a beauty!

This is my first year breeding FT's. Most of the eggs that my females laid were infertile, and I was starting to loose hope, but then this little miracle arrived today! He (hopefully) was incubated at 88 degrees so I am praying it will be a male.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Thank you!

Congrats.
You will find that AFT babies are way more shy than leopard babies. Be very careful when you start to feed him. Only offer two crix at a time. Let him eat those and then offer a couple more. These guys get totally stressed out if you offer too many crix at one time and will quit eating. Good Luck with him.

Thank you for the tip. I am going to be super careful with him. Any other tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The only other thing I can think of, is to keep them in a small container for a while. They seem to do better in smaller enclosures until they are a few months old. Also make sure you mist him, babies can dehydrate fast. (another reason, I like small enclosures, easier to keep the humidity up)

I like small enclosures too for hatchlings. THey have less work looking for food. They dont have so far to go to catch their crickets. With fat tails they dont start to try to get out of their containers till they are about 2 to 3 months old. My hatchling Leo's are sneaky and will sneak out the back as I dump crickets in the front. So i keep my leo hatchlings in a larger container than I do for my fat tails. I've had to chase down a few leo's this past week.. Never had a run away fat tail yet

Congrats Jeanne. I got eggs from the female you sold me a while back. And the male has bit me a couple of times. LOL! Keep us posted on the new fatties.
