Reptile Show!!...

cassity Jul 11, 2009 07:01 PM

Just got back from the first day of Kansas City's 2day show...

If you can make it out there tomorrow it's great. Well worth the $5 ticket and a 30min drive for me.

Still a great selection of herps there, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that everything looked like good cbb. There's going to be plenty of bargains on the last day for sure!

If anyone's interested it's about 20min S of downtown KC, at the Holiday Inn off of I-35 and 87th St.

And a BIG thanks to John Metcalf of M.Y.Herps for my latest addition... bragging pics to come as soon as film develops :D

I went this morning as well....kinda disappointed. There weren't many '09 Balls to be seen anywhere and next to no higher end stuff.

I remember back 5-10 years ago when the KC Herp Society put on the nice big shows out by the airport...but even those shows are getting small.

I can go to Miles of Exotics on Barry Road or Pet World in Lawrence, KS and see everything I saw at this show.

With that said, it is still fun to go to shows even if they are smaller.

While it may not be the show it was 5-10 years ago, idk wasn't around then, this weekend's show was the best I've seen them do in the 2 years I've been going... and yes, I do go to every one.

Maybe not a lot of 09 balls, I'm sure there's plenty still hatching.
Limited selection of higher end... ok, but really who's buying higher end stuff right now? There were plenty of base morphs available, and even some of those weren't moving.
Unfortunately just a sign of our poor economy, the ball market is in a real slump this year. But for a buyer with money, you can get some great deals there.
I did see some nice high white pieds, a juvie clown, bee, and you couldn't miss the pastel calico!

Reptile Show... while we all love balls, I wouldn't want to go to a show that was just about balls, I can shop for balls here on KS.
And this show had a wide variety of reptiles. The New Caldonian geckos were awesome, and there was a nice 7-8ft Bredli python. Various bearded dragons, chameleons, GTP, rainbow, of course the burms, tics, bloods and boas. There's one table alone that has a great selection of monitor-type lizards, turtles and amphibians.

Please, while the show may not be what it once was, don't discourage others from going... It's that type of pr that really effects a shows patronage, and thus the vendors willing to attend.

I, for one, will probably be back on Sunday to enjoy the sights and talk with local herpers... to me, that's the whole reason for going.

Dang it, didn't realize we had a show this weekend. I guess I'll have to write down the date for the next one so I don't miss it.
