Dr. Bernard Bechtel - RIP

Dr. Bernard Bechtel, dermatologist and a leading authority on reptile genetics passed away July 10 in Gainesville, FL.

I first met Dr. Bechtel in 1975 when my mom was cool enough to get me out of my sixth grade class to attend his cornsnake lecture at Valdosta State University. Fouteen years later, Dr. Bechtel and I had a nice discussion on the indigo snake population as he removed a mole from my left shoulder.

Wow, what a tradgic thing to hear.
I never got the opportunity to meet him and wish I would have had the chance. It definatly would have been an honor.
I know if it were not for him, none of us would be enjoying this great hobby/trade as the way we do now.

It's because of him and his work that this hobby is at the level it is now, an industry.
