Once In A Lifetime Photo

trevid Jul 12, 2009 05:18 PM

My son was able to get this pic on a recent hike into the eastbay hills. He noticed movement in some brush and when he went to investigate, this was what he found. The battle only lasted a few moments. You'll notice there is a twig between the Alameda whipsnake's jaws and the western fence lizard. This saved the lizards life and left the federaly protected racer slithering off hungrier for the effort. Enjoy.

Definitely a once in a lifetime shot, and I'm glad it was taken by someone who can appreciate it. Too often I hear amazing snake stories by people who aren't even into herping, or go out of their way to avoid snakes.
