My son was able to get this pic on a recent hike into the eastbay hills. He noticed movement in some brush and when he went to investigate, this was what he found. The battle only lasted a few moments. You'll notice there is a twig between the Alameda whipsnake's jaws and the western fence lizard. This saved the lizards life and left the federaly protected racer slithering off hungrier for the effort. Enjoy.
