candycane knoblocki.

shannon brown Jul 14, 2009 06:45 AM

Well, I really was hoping to produce a nice male candycane this year to go with my girl from last year.I only had four eggs go full term out of the 6 that whre laid.2 hatched out and I opened the other 2 to find full term dead babies. The two that where dead in eggs where normal looking as well as one that hatched. The other that hatched is a candycane. Not as nice as last year but better than the pinners last year so I am pretty certain its totally genetic but a year or two more before I know for sure.
Anyway, I love her head pattern and she doesn't have much black on her.

here she is with her only surviving sibling from this year.

here are the two that didn't make it out of the egg.Bummer!

here is another clutch that hatched a few days ago. These all share the same father as the candycanes so I guess its possible that they are hets.

and here is my candycane from last year.

sad but happy at the same time,Those are NEAT Knobs,do they have a morph classification such as hypomelanistic

shannon brown Jul 14, 2009 10:35 AM

no true classification per say. They seem to be very much like the Applegate candycane pyros.I am sure it will breed 100% true and be a simple recessive trait snd I have already seen the babies will vary some on the amount of black just like the pyros did.
They are hypo by defenition but not by the way we through that turm around. The little bit of black that is there is really black and isn't alterned into a brown or purple haze.ajaust small amounts of black, thats it.

Thanks ,you can see small amounts of un-muted black on the hypo Fl. king also, unlike some of the Hondos.etc...which the black seems to exibit itself as a Grey or ?
I guess what im trying to say is hypo is a term(and morph) loosly used by definition and may be catagorized seperatly, have a nice lunch and im not having a "P.B.&J" or an "Extreme" shake and a "Ginger" snap.Have a "SUPER" Day

Very nice Shannon. That sucks about the two that died full term! At least you had some others hatch.

Incredible animal. I have a pair from last year that are very similar to yours. Here are some older pics of them.
