Gotta Love Hidden Genetics!!!

KevinM Jul 14, 2009 09:40 AM

My last clutch of the season started hatching a couple of days ago and last night I started separating the babies into their own containers. This clutch was from a large older amel female corn I just acquired in the fall that I bred to a striped butter male. To my surprise, some of the babies came out motley!!! I was expecting all amels, but the amel mots were a pleasant bonus!!

in 2006 I had my first corn snake clutch hatch. I bred a Snow female to a Striped Sunglow male. got 18 eggs, 2 went bad, 16 hatched. I was expecting all albinos from that clutch. i hatched out 8 snow and 8 amel. one of the snows had alittle pattern mutation, but not much. I kept a male from the clutch, and will be breeding him in '010 (coining that phrase now) to an amel motley, and a normal amel, and we will see what comes out, again guessing amels and pattern mutations, but you never know.
