snake room

texasviper619 Jul 14, 2009 08:39 PM

I am planning on building a seperate room in my garage for all my snakes, for thermoregulation. It will be 6x7. Are there any musts or must nots I should be aware of? Has anyone else done this? They are starting to take up too much space in the house and my wife is starting to "complain"

Well, this may not be very helpful, but my first "don't" would be, don't make it so small. That's not enough room to safely work with hots.

If you've got easily movable cages, keeping them there and taking cages out into the garage to handle the snakes might work. But then how secure is your garage if something gets loose?

If you're not keeping hots (or pythons) and just asked here, this might not be an issue.

Yes I am keeping hots, currently 4 wdb and a gaboon. I have 18 other non venomous snakes including boas and texas native snakes, but no pythons. I think I could stretch it to 8x10, and now that I think about it, I would probably appreciate the extra room, thanks

I was going to say the same thing, more room.Even 8X10 leaves little room to work once you have cages in there. I built a separate out-building that's 12X20 2 years ago and I'm now in the process of doubling it to 24X20.You'll be amazed at how quick you fill up the "extra" space!
