sjatm941 May 24, 2003 11:57 PM

i just got these from don at south mountain reptiles . curious what other people think about using a all glass tank for kings . mainly wondering about covering the back and sides to make the snakes more comfortable ? will it make them feel more secure ? thanks for your opinions ! sean

My blotched king has been in a glass tank all her life. She just burrows under the substrate when she wants to hide. Those kings might be a little more nervous than mine is, though. For nervous snakes, I just toss a towel over half the tank, keeps humidity in too. (I guess I'm not too concerned about looks, am I?)

when i keep snakes in a glass tank i get that aquarium background stuff and cover three sides of the tank with it so you can only see the front. this will make them feel more secure. i have an albino cal king that is 3 years old and is thriving in a glass tank. 75 gallon that is.

The next time the shuttle lands, lets all get dressed up in ape suits and charge at the astronaughts yelling and ranting. That way they can try to figure out where they took a wrong turn.

and seems happy as can be. She's such a good girl Can you tell I'm happy I chose to adopt her? She has a good three to four inches of Carefresh in her cage and two hides: one flowerpot with a hole in the side, and a half-log (which she rarely uses - mostly just to rub her shed off I think) and a soaking dish. One side of her tank is covered in black paper - more for the bearded dragon who lives next door to her then for her sake tho I like the Carefresh (I put it in there the first time I set up her tank just because we had some left over from the hairless mice supplies) - she has permanent tunnels (the Carefresh molds to her as she burrows around and stays that way) she digs through it that she consistentlyu uses...she has a way to get anywhere in the tank she wants, only surfacing for small periods of time. She is out a lot exploring during the day anyway - my curious girl checks out each and every student that comes by - hoping for a snack maybe?
