The odds have not been with me this year

jason Jul 15, 2009 07:01 PM

Well, after waiting on three eggs from my ringer female, who was bred by both my pastel and my butter, I was more than a little disappointed to get all normals. This has been a pretty crappy season for me, starting with only two females actually producing clutches, losing my entire pastel clutch, and now producing all normals from this clutch. I'm going to make myself feel better by telling myself that a crappy year has to be followed by an awesome year the next season. Hopefully I'm right.

I am glad to see everyone else posting pics of such awesome babies, though.

Drink a cold one, and wait for next year.

email me. tbirdscww@aol.com. Subject line: Crap Year. I'll make you feel a ton better about those 3 normals.

Jason,
Don't feel too bad, man. Plenty of us are having less than ideal seasons. It may not seem like it, but that is mostly because most people don't post about there bad clutches or seasons. Even those people that have larger collections only tend to post their good results. This tends to make it feel like you are the only one having poor results.

It gets better. Sometimes you have a bad clutch, sometimes a bad season, sometimes a few bad seasons in a row. Just try to keep in mind your end goals for your collection and try to remember why you started this in the first place (hopefully, because you were excited about it and enjoyed the idea of a watching a new life pipping through it's egg).

Every egg, every clutch, every season, is a complete coin toss. Don't give up, man.

Here is a link to a post I made earlier in the season:

This sucked, big time! However, I had a surprise last week when the least likely of my females dropped a three egg clutch. Yeah, it's ONLY three eggs, but it is a Pastel x Bumble Bee breeding (or a Pastel x Russo het. Leucistic - I paired the Pastel Dam with two separate males). I'm excited for the results... I figure after my past two seasons I'm due for 1.2 Killer bees or 1.2 Pastel Russos! (Okay, that's a little arrogant, but I'm still hoping!)
