Finally got first pip squeeks!!!

boxienuts Jul 15, 2009 07:23 PM

Well after 64 days I have the first corn snakes pipping and one started pipping last night was already out of the egg when I got home from work tonight. I had a target incubation temp of 81 this year instead of 83, plus it has been a cool summer this year and it was hard to even maintain 81 degrees. The reason I went a little cooler is that some people have said and written that cooler incubation results in calmer snakes. Last year a few of my babies from one of the clutches that was closest to the heat tape were nippy and jumpy (my incubators are simply big tubs on top of the snake racks with the small tubs containing eggs inside the big tubs on one side away from the heat tape, nothin' fancy). The first one out is a caramel female and she is very calm and let me sex her without biting or freaking out so, so far so good, we shall see if it holds up for the other 50 plus hatchlings. It looks like the one pipping in the middle is a butter, hoping it is a butter stripe, since this clutch is from breeding my triple het butter stripe to the same.
