baby balls not eating yet??

ballfreak Jul 15, 2009 09:01 PM

i have tried a few times to feed my new baby balls and so far only one has eaten for me! the other three have not yet eaten i have only tried rat pups because that is all i breed and was hoping thats what they would eat. i know there tubs may be a little bigger than they should 23 deep and 7 wide but i cant spend the money on hatchling rack right now. im not yet trying mice only because if they dont eat them how will they live with the mom? its been 4 weeks and the skinniest one weighs 44 grams. any input is greatly appreciated!!

Hi,

I am in the same boat. I breed tons of rats, and my 60 gram snakes won't touch them. I tried and tried rat pinks and pups. I went out to the pet store 2 days ago and bought 2 hopper mice and they both eat in just several minutes of introducing them. Don't mess around with baby balls. Give in in buy some mice hoppers and switch them later. Good luck.

I agree just get mice. They can last a few days without mom. I have one doing the same thing here, it has been a month and she has not eaten shows signs she is hungry. I have tried mice and rats. Now I am just going to leave her be for another week then try the mouse again. I get really fat fuzzy mice to get them started. Normally that works. In four years of breeding I have only had one just refuse to eat. After six months of messing with that snake I did have to put her down. I tried everything.. Get the fuzzy's and they should eat. Don't try everyday, leave them alone for a few days then try..

Mice are the way to go at first...its not hard to get them switched over. I also start with hoppers....they move around more and all the snakes I've seen seem to like that more than a fuzzy that just lays there.

I have had the best luck with hoppers by far, do you have little hides in their big tubs, if not I personally would give them hides before I even tried again. Good luck!
