HELP !! Lost Monitor !!

BRONXBOY Jul 16, 2009 11:45 AM

Hello,

I am embarrassed to admit this but I am assuming it has happened to other herp lovers, but I lost one of my baby monitors. I have no idea where it is. My apartment is pretty big and he is pretty small. He can be in one of a couple hundred places. I never see him but I know he moves around the apartment when I am at work because I see things out of place and on the floor. So I guess what I am asking is, are there any homemade traps I can make and place in the apartment to catch him or am I totally out of luck ?

Thank you for your time

Your post reminds me of a thread a while back on another forum. Somebody's answer was simple to a similar situation... "get off the computer and go look for it"
Start with the 100th place and work your way down.

You can borrow someone's haveaheart trap, just make sure it's big enough so the tail doesn't get hit by the door.
or try the ol carboard box/stick trap. use a pinky for bait.

Hope you find it.

If you're finding things 'out of place' where you think he's been, start in that area and don't leave one stone unturned. I'm surprised he's warm enough to be moving about much, as most homes aren't kept hot enough for monitors. How long has he been missing? Oh and, careful when you vaccuum!!!)It wouldn't be the first time a loose monitor got mangled. (mentioning no names;p]

Did you say embarrassed haha, believe me losing one monitor is nothing to be embarraressed about, hell if it is the first time it happend, there will be many more they are smart buggers. I lose a monitor once a month. Usually I just let it slide untill they show up somewhere, and sometimes in the wierdest of places...I wont get into that though.

But how do you find it, or how can you get it to find you. Well, if it is large enough to move stuff around and make things seem as though they are out of place then you should be able to hear it moving around.

What I would do is hangout in the room he escaped in or vicinity and just be very still. If it was a healthy active lizard it will be on the move often and you should be able to hear it. That is how I find mine 85% of the time becuase they are making some wierd sounds.

If the premisis is realtively well sealed off and the lizard was healthy you should be alright. Like I said many times you will simply be surpirsed in the ways they will show them self.

Goodluck,
Mike.

Hey !! I found it !! I stopped looking for it and figured it would just show up at one point and it did !! I was taking a shower and I noticed the water was not going down the drain that easily. There had to be something clogging the drain and guess what it was, my escaped yellow monitor. I could see his head in the drain but he would not come out. I finally put a bunch of water in the tub and gently used a plunger to move the water around in the drain and he came flying out of the other exit of the drain on the upper part of my tub and I grabbed it !! Thanks for all your suggestions.
