150 gallon lid?

Alesha_Rae Jul 16, 2009 12:28 PM

I just purchased a used 150 gallon tank off craigslist but it doesnt have a lid. The previous owner housed turtles in it, but I will be housing a boa. Any suggestions on where I can find a screen lid or ideas on how to build one?

The dimensions are 72 7/8 x19 x28 3/4.

Ive looked online, but cannot find a retail store that carries replacement lids of that size.

Thanks for all your help!

You can build screen windows to any size at the hardware store. Many actually have kits others just all the pieces. You'll have to figure out how to secure it but screen windows with trim are easy and cheap to make.

Personally I don't like using aquaria for reptiles but sometimes you have to go with what you have.

Good Luck

Something to consider is placing the tank on its side so the top opening is now the front. A friend of mine did this with a bunch of large tanks and put in sliding glass doors. You can put in a substrate dam behind the track and can also frame out the ends for ventilation.

I have also seen round soffit vents added through holes drilled in sliding glass doors.

I would look at glasscages.com. I can't imagine that a regular aquarium would have unusual dimensions like that, but take a look. They seem to have great stuff when it comes to "aquarium" type cages.
