SHvar, I got a question about your post below on 45 W floods ...

Did you ever use a probe and check the heat the top of your monitors back? With a big monitor like Sobek, I would suspect there would be a much higher temp at that level. If so, what kind of temp range was there, and if not, well I guess it doesnt really matter since your monitor uses it and recieves no ill effects. I am finally building my new enclosure (yay, i got money now!!!) and I would have to kick my own /-$$ if I ever burned my monitor. I will have my light system adjustable in height, but a heads up on what other people are recieving as results are always helpful. One last little question, how much farther than a foot do you have the light, and do you have it protected by wire mesh?

Thanks for the help, my gears are always running about these darn lizards.

The lights are at 12 inches from the plywood surface of the upper section of the basking sight (2 levels). I put a lamp dimmer from Lowes to increase or decrease the light intensity. Ive never noticed what the temps on her back are (Id used the infared gun for that to). My monitors except one have their bulbs in the cage with them unprotected because they only occaisionally bump into them because they dont have to get too close to warm up. When they burn its because they couldnt warm up at a safe distance and lay too close or on the lights to warm up (ie cage too cold). I adjust the dimmer down when its hot to keep the temps in the cgae lower and lower the basking temps a bit.

had not thought about putting a variable resistor in to control the heat. I was only going to use distance. Thanks for the help.
