I wanna see some public outcry, one-sideded media sensationalism
and political knee jerk hysteria about this...

we're going to have to find something else to feed our reptiles guys. Once congress gets a hold of this information, there is sure to be a ban on "invasive and dangerous" rodents nationwide!

This is insane though. What a tragedy for the little girl and although most likely at fault, her parents. It's impossible to believe the rats just decided to come in that day.

I agree with the first repsonse though. It looks like we'll have new legislature on rats proposed also.

I was kidding obviously, but there are ICD9 Diagnosis codes for
rat bites. I work in the health insurance industry. Claims get
submitted for this more frequently than you'd think.
Children in lower income areas deal with rat bites at night.

Rats are known to crawl up to babies and lick up the dribble,
they continue chewing. It's disgusting but it happens often
enough that there are codes set up to deal with the medical
claims.

The loss of another precious child

The fact that there are insurance claim codes to deal with that is a very sad reflection on our society...we owe our children so much more. I don't care if you live in blight there are ways to control rats...at least keep your dwelling clean enough to not attract them.

We won't hear much about this tragedy.
Rats running feral are OK
They are mammals people don't like 'um but....

When I was in horticulture I learned about introducing natural predators as pest control. How about instead of killing all those burms we just relocate some of them and let the Rats natural predator do its job?

That's HORRIBLE!!!!

That must have been a very slow painful death for her. Normally, I would have thought the parents should have heard the baby crying. Unfortunately, at 3 months, they don't cry that loudly.

This is truely as sad day. I hope that house is condemed and the family finds a new better place to live. I can't imagine they will ever be able to set foot in that house again, after what happened.

I can't imagine how that little girl must have suffered. At least, she's at peace now. My prayers go out to the little girl and her family.

Treeserpent Jul 17, 2009 06:28 PM

Actually 3 month olds cry quite loudly. Now if the parent was in a druged sleep........

Wirlwindboaz Jul 17, 2009 06:35 PM

I guess some babies cry louder than others.

My daughter sounded like a kitten crying at 3 months. She didn't get "loud" until she was closer to 6 months.

That's funny. A little mew huh! God my little girl had some pipes on her. We installed a baby moniter/ camera and put the receiver on my wifes night stand. being a first time paranoid parent we wanted to make sure she didn't stop breathing. Tell you what though, we did not need to turn the monitor up because we had absolutely no problem hearing her cry.
