new couperi owner

Yesterday I got my first eastern Indigo snake, a beautiful and healthy 6' long female. I am planning on building a larger cage for her as she is currently using my friend's 4x1.5. I am planning to build 6x2 cages for her and eventually, another male. Would this size cage work or do they like more squarish cages, say about a 5x3 or something similar? Another question I have is about breeding. I may try some kind of breeding loan with a local pet shop. Has anyone done this with Indigos? Do they get burned out by breeding two years in a row?

Thanks everyone, when she is finished shedding I will have a lot of fun with my digital and post pictures.

I personally like a cage with a bit more depth (like 6' x 3'...even the vision 4' x 3' cages work well), however, the dimensions you have should work just fine.

I use cages that are 6 feet long, 2 feet deep and 16" high. They are divided into two sections, one 2'x2' that is dark (for a hide area) and the other side is 4'x2' with a windowed door. This setup seems to work well for me and I think others on here use a similar setup.

As far as breeding, there are some guys that I'm sure will jump into this discussion who have lots of experience breeding couperi. From what I've seen, experiences this year are leading to a concensus that breeding consecutive years can contribute to problems such as egg-binding. I'll let Dean or one of the others with more direct experience expound on these ideas.....

I wish you lots of luck with breeding end of things!!!
