Spotted Python vs Stimson's Python??

inhisgrip30 Jul 18, 2009 12:33 PM

I have what is definitely an Antaresia python, but I am having trouble distinguishing if he is a spotted or Stimson's. He has some bars like a Stimson's but the color is a little darker than i would expect. I know that Stimmy's vary in color but... I have heard that you can do a count of head scales to distinguish them, has anyone heard this before? If so, what is the difference in the count?

smuggled.com used to have some very good info on telling species apart. Trouble may come if you have hybrids and scales don't match anyone.
