mangrove problem

krantz Jul 18, 2009 08:25 PM

alright, I just got a female mangrove a couple of weeks ago and she had a really bad nose rub and was visibly salivating. Well I started putting on neosporin on her nose were there was a scab. I've done this from the day she showed up and now her nose is almost normal. Oh ya her nose rub was so bad that it was swollen to the point that you could see the white skin between the scales. But that is doing much better, but she is still salivating. So my question is what could be causing her to salivate?

Did you open the mouth and inspect it? My first guess would be that the trauma ruptured a salivory gland. Treatment might be surgical repair or removal. Discuss this with a vet and they might offer how much time can be usefull to see if it will heal on it's own.

well yesterday she had shed and she was a little nippy and she was holding her mouth open in a threat display and it looked fine. it was a nice cottony white, and her salivation had pretty much stopped. now today there is no saliva coming out on the sides of her mouth, but I'm going to keep a close eye on her for the next couple of weeks and if anything else happens I'll take her in right away. But please comment more on this because I'm not the first to deal with this and I'm sure I'm not the last.
