High White Pieds and Speckling?

Christy Talbert Jul 19, 2009 06:30 AM

Hi everyone,

A couple of years ago at Daytona we bought a high white pied girl. She's probably 85% white.

Over time, she's began developing black "freckles" in her white portions - something that has not happened with my medium white pieds. Is this typical of a high white? I'd guess she has 20 or so freckles of various sizes now, and the number is on the increase.

She has never been injured.

Thoughts?

Christy

Christy, I have an 07 male pied that is about 75% white. He started off with a couple random black scales, but over time a lot more have popped up. I'd say about 15. I got him when he was 175 grams now he's about 850 grams. He's from Ernie Wagner's line of Piebalds.

Hey,

Have you checked for spray paint. I am just kidding...That is weird. Are there other snakes that change colors like this that anyone knows about? Thanks for sharing this weird transformation with us. Please show some pics for us.

Thanks,
Bill

I have an 85% white pied also, a male. When I bought him at 153g he had 1 random black scale in the middle of all that white. Over time that area has grown (it seems he gets another black scale each shed) and he has developed 2 more black freckles. It must be fairly common.

Don't go looking for snakes--you might find them.

One 2007 male produced here is a 75% white and he has had the same thing happen. Each time I look at him, he has more black spots on his white body than before. Very interesting....
