dumb ? on importing bloods.....?

adamjeffery Jul 19, 2009 09:31 AM

first let me say that i just recently got into ball pythons after a long stint with mostley colubrids. second im gaining interest in bloods.
now my actual question.....
do they import similiar numbers of bloods as they do balls?
are they farming bloods the same way as balls?
are they importing gravid bloods in as well?
i know the two snakes are from differant countries but buisness practices could be the same so thanks for all who can help.

Ball pythons were imported by the millions. Bloods only in the hundreds. Each country has its own quotas but they are largely used for the skin trade and roughly 500-1000 live animals are imported by each respective country: Sumatra and Borneo.

Gravid females are not shipped that I am aware of intentionally. Farmed animals do come in, but are subject to the same quotas above. Unlike ball pythons, bloods do not breed as quickly and forcing growth on them is counter-productive.
