Cutting Eggs??

IsaacM Jul 19, 2009 06:36 PM

Hello,

Just wanted some opinions on whether or not to cut eggs and if so what day into incubation would it be safe to cut?

Thanks,
Isaac

Depends on temp you incubate at. I incubate at 89 and it is safe to cut around day 52 however I prefer to wait for first one to pip then ill cut the rest unless they get to 60 days with no pipping then ill cut. Just one opinion you will get many on this debate.

Once the first has pipped, wait about 12 to 24 hours and then you can consider manually pipping them...

I don't cut and they all seem to hatch.

Well I will be the one to speak up for my side since noone else seems will. For the last 6 years I cut on day 52 with the temps incubated at 89 and have yet to have a problem. Just candle them while you cut so as not to hit a big vein and you will be fine.....

I usually try to wait for at least one baby to pip before I cut. However, if the suspense is making me lose sleep, I will cut on day 55 to take a peek (that's at an 89 degree incubation temp). I use cuticle scissors and go slowly to make sure I don't hit any big veins.

I really appreciate everyones opinion that replied. I could not take it anymore!!! I cut them open last nite, day 54 and to my surprise all 5 were butters!! One of them looks very weird as far as pattern goes. These are from a butter x normal? female. She laid 10 eggs but 5 were duds so I guess I got the better half! I`m new to this forum so as soon as I figure out how to post pics I will.

Thanks,
Isaac

I got all normals from my butter to normal breeding. Maybe next year.
