Horror Stories...

HE IS A OLD TIMER LOL!!!! TODD DONT LET THE OLD MAN LABEL YOU, HES LOSSING HIS MARBLES, HE IS DUBBING HIS UP AND COMING MBK LINE THE "BLACK WIDOW LINE" BECAUSE HE FED HIS MALE TO HIS FEMALE?!?!?

The above is a quote from my friend Chris Flowers on the mexicana sub forms. I was gonna wait and post this story after everyone's babies hatched and are sold /when the forums slow down a bit but, seeing how Chris brought it to light... I feel I should tell the story now. I'm posting it here because this is the forum I haunt most often & here is where I'd have posted it later on.

First of all let me say that that what happened is from my own stupidity and nothing else..and if my experience can help anyone else from doing as I did, something good will come of this..

I threw my MBK's together and fed them together for the past five months. She was a year older than he was and a tad bit larger..so she'd get a sm rat and he'd eat a couple large mice..he was always ready to eat so he'd be at the front of the cage at feeding time so I'd throw him a mouse first and then quickly feed her as she wasn't as aggressive in her feeding responces as he was & then him again when he finished the first & she was busy, the last feeding I noticed he was going after her rat while she was on it. (he tried a sm rat a month before & he couldn't get it down so I flushed it and fed him his 2 mice later)..so I threw him in his other mouse, assuming he ate the other already. he took it and I thought nothing of it.

Now a little about my set up.I have cages and tubs around my computer, in my living room.(till I get my snake room done) After I feed, I stick around & play on the computer & make sure everybody is eating, looking in the cage fronts for uneaten food. Didn't hear any thrashing, just figured they were both content and on the heat. my monitor is sitting on top of the cage that they were in. So a couple days later I'm on the computer and start faintly smelling something..thinking to find a mouse left behind, I pulled out the tub and there he was laying in the back on the heat, half eaten. Damn! I can't say for sure but, I think he didn't eat that first mouse and went for it later on, she finished her rat and went for it also but on the other end of the mouse & he couldn't back off fast enough. She could only get just so much of him down because she was filled with a rat. Or maybe she's just a pissed off lady and he finally pushed her too far or I wasn't feeding enough, I don't know..but I chalk it up to poor husbandry. My fault.

I'm still keeping some of my kings together and still feed em together. But now I OPEN every tub to get a visual & make sure there is no food left behind.

DAMN MBK's.. he was beautiful,..Tom Stevens stock..it's been a trying year for evansexoticenterprise...but I selfishly won't give up the experience of owning and admiring these fascinating and beautiful creatures. R.I.P. Hawkeye.

Hey Rich
Dont be to hard on yourself!!! Things happen buddy.
You know it was a joke, as everyone else will know...that is if they venture over to the Mexicana forums...

But like we have talked about before this was a off year for you, stuff happens, I bombed out many years before and finally this year I got some good hatchlings. I'm glad I helped you get into the hobby, just like so many that helped me. Its seems just like yesterday I was at your house admiring you collection...oh wait I was

You dont have to explain yourself on here, but its good you put it on here. Its always goood to help others learn from others mistakes. I have learned tons from these forums and other peoples comments and mistakes. Ther has been a million post on here about keeping kings together and EVERYONE has thier on opinion about. So keep them together some dont. As you know with my kings I only have them together for breeding but thats just me...to each thier own.

BTW Rainer he does drink late at night ...that is his sereninity LOL

aaaahhh, so now some of the ???? are making sense. Richard, I went out of town for two days on a job in south Texas and didn't check in last night! I just got home about 9:30 tonight. My mailbox was crammed full of questions, what's in the box?? I had no idea what was going on because I checked my mail first, I guess I don't have my priorities right lol! Sorry to hear about Hawkeye, but there are rules about the ladies...1. Don't ask her age, 2. don't answer if she asks, Do these pants make my butt look fat, 3. Don't let her finish her meal first, or she will dine off your plate!!! I don't feed my pairs together, I take him out and feed her in cage, just how I do it, especially if she is bigger. I don't think I would have a problem if he was bigger feeding in the same cage, but I watch my getula kings like a...well, you know. I like John Lassiters' new setups and think this is the way I will go as well, cap them off separately during feeding time, I don't think they hunt in packs!
