Somadisons Surgey was scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00AM to do
a Biopsy to futher see wat is going on with her. We have been
fighting with different doctors (same building-Low Income Ins)
to get fther tests done so we can overcome her 'problem' for
lack of a better word. I call this morning because our regular
doctor had scheduled a surgery for this time, but I called the
surgeon's office and say that it is only a consultation and can
someimes be up to 3 months befre they can get her in. I started
explaining how Tia and I have pleaded with ll the doctors saying
she is not herself, in fact she looks permently 'sick'. They kept
pushing us out for almost a year with NO ANSWERS and just to take
childrens Motrin to bring the fever down ecause she has a virus.
Now that was almost year ago when her first 'bump' we had found
on her neck. When I call the Surgeon andtld them the story about
how NO ONE CARED (all the doctors there), her response was "Umm,
wen a child has a bump n her Body, especially her Lymphnodes, it
is CRUCIAL that they find out what it is (remember this started
a year ago)in a timely fashion, and for the doctor to tell me
that they are doing SURGERY TOMORROW was straigt up FALSE INFO
and the doctor should KNOW THAT. The lady then asked me
what her and the other Doctors names are because all thee Doctors
notes dont een come close to what the symptom are. They just try
to touch (sometimes dont a all) and since she is Autistic she
cannot feel pain (it is more like PLEASURE than actual PAIN) so
the doctor thinks she is just going through a virus. When we plea
with them, they get all defensive and say that we are overlooking
this whole scenerio when the Symptoms and it just takes time to
go away. ttook a 104.7 fever for quite a few days with the ER
peopleshe boosted to 107.2 and she was Hallucinating on the floor
going into 'brain damage mode'. The surgeon secretary is on the
phone with them right now reeming them, an she is trying to get
some people fired because they d not know what to do with Maddy.
Going from 1 and within a calander year has 40 . I am so livid
because of surgery not happening tomorrow. Why would a Doctor
give false info knowing they will get caught? Why would they wait
a year instead of the FIRST VISIT like I was told? I tr to stand
up in defense for her, but ALL THE DOCTORS IGNORE ME!
Sorry guys I am a mess, and am sick of the neglegence on their
behalf. Anywas I really don know what is going to happen tomorrow
but I PRAY that EVERYTHING WILL BE OK. It justlooks like
Lymphoma- stick ou like a sore thumb, the just did not want to
tell us that so they wont be te bear of bad news. I just thoght
I would let you all know what was going on. Thank you ALL fr your
time, and I am sorry under the circumstances......... Im just
SUPER HOT right now, sorry for whoever wh does not want to read
this, I understand.

I am very sorry to hear they are still giving you the run around on this. I would try to speak with your local District Attorney as well as your States Medical Board. Perhaps the risk of losing their licenses or atleast a harsh reprimand will get them in gear. Good luck with this, I am sure as a father of 4 that what you are going through is heart breaking and about the most difficult thing anyone can go through.

I just got off the phone with a Lawyer and he knows there is
something there... Child (Autistic) and 40 Tumors within a
year does not mix well.

I dont care about the money even though our family could use it
to get out of our Low Income Housing, but I would be WAY MORE
SATISFIED if they lost their licenses so they do not do this to
ANYONE ELSE, because as it sits there is a HUGE CHANCE on her
having Lymphoma (Lymphnode Cancer) and it could have been way
more preventative if they would have listened to us parents
about how our daughter was acting/looking physically and would
not listen to our demands. They were just quick to jump to a
virus and kept saying that and shoving us away. The medical field
is corrupt, our health insurance is through the State so we only
have so many routes we can take.

I honestly though feel I was not doing my part as a father
because it could have been dealt with promptly, but I feel that
my age was a factor, and Madisons Autism restricted people from
touching her all the time. I cant talk about this anymore, I am
very sorry to cut it off like this, but since the Doctors WOULD
NOT LISTEN TO ME, I feel I am a part of he problem

This is the time for you to find composure...anger is not an emotion that will do you or Madison any good right now...I think you have every reason to be angry though.

You will get much further with the Dr. and med staff by keeping your cool...easy advice for me to offer a I am not dealing with what is on your plate.....but conversation is not productive when anger is clouding your thought process.

Forget what the Dr. told you....he had no business in telling you that as the surgeon would be the one who makes his own schedule...not the Dr.

Clear your head and work with the surgeon tomorrow he/she may have more encouraging news for you and they always need to do an evaluation before any surgery....but this time you will be speaking with a specialist.

Leave your anger at the Dr. behind and approach the surgeon with hope instead.

Madison has rights and I think that you need to contact the hospitals patient advocacy rights representative immediately!

I would be getting the local news station involved as well if things do not progress in Madisons favor...we are all pulling for you Kenny....remember try to clear your head.

This sounds utterly ridiculous Kenny ! I'm sorry you, your wife and Madison have to experience this level of apathy
from people - Doctors who are supposed to care about our health and the health of our children.
You and Maddy have been in my prayers.
A sample biopsy really isn't very complicated.
They could take a needle biopsy to get a start.
Then a lymph biospy isn't major surgery, they only need to make a
very small incision to access 1 of the inflamed lymph nodes.
They are treating you badly making you believe this is major surgery .
It is not even close to major surgery.
Have you gone to a regular emergency room at a hospital ,
to see how they diagnose the problem ?
Just a thought

Honestly they wont give us the time of day. Finally a spike of
107.2 fever finally opened their eyes and sent her to a
Pediactric Hospital, after us telling them our precious baby
is under war with her own body.

If I let human nature out it would not benefit ANYONE. I have
noticed that. With that being said Doctors are on this Earth to
do 1 thing and 1 thing only... To heal. Unfortunately, most Dr's
see time as money so they want to get them in and out as fast as
possible, and now there is potentially a life threatening problem
that could haveben dealt with promtly a while ago before they
started mass producing in all of her Lymphnodes. Just STRAIGHT
NEGLEGENCE plain and simple. That is my biggest problem. The
principles and standards of the medical field has deprishiated
by the month, just for the sake of more money. How many people
have died from this kind of neglegence? 50? 10,000? Millions? My
daughter will not be a statistic, not on my watch. I am done
getting bullied around by 1st year residents who know nothing
more than to treat a common cold/flu. If nothing happens at this
new hospital, I am going to Doernbecker- Leading Childrens
Hospital. This Surgeon sounds compassionate, the secretary called
our Doctors office making a formal complaint to them due to not
having the right to speak and or do the Surgeons Job. To have me
and my family conviced that she was going into surgery tomorrow
without prep papers for Madison is BAD NEWS. Mother in Law is on
a plane right now rushing here t be with us for the next month
or however long it takes to make sure shes ok. Now she is going
to be upset that we were lied to. Either way we're getting family
here for support, and that is what we need. But I want to let
you ALL know, I feel like you all are my family here. I have
never had so much support, and I thank you ALL

Ty Hege paid for my Mother in Law's plane ticket, and for that I
am truly greatful. If you guys know Ty, drop him a line and tell
him thank you for helping me out-for me

Can you say malpractice law suit? I only see a doctor these days if I'm in the emergency room .

symetryexotics Jul 20, 2009 05:09 PM

I have already told the lawyer that I ill ONLY give him my time
when I am not with my family. This guy is definately a family
man, to the point were you can hear his tone changing just by
listening to my story.
Thank you Tree Serpent

Well they aren't very bright. Think they need to go back to school. they obviously should not be licensed to care for humans.

Sounds like you are taking the right actions from all I read above.

1) Maddy's care is first and foremost!!

2) Anger on your part will NOT get the medical profession working for you. Can only impede progress.

3) What's done is done, can't change it so most important now and always is what course to take at the present time.

4) Lawyers - may very well be necessary but once they are involved may very well slow down the diagnosis/treatment process. Of course if not making any progress they could help get things going. IMO you should hold that card in reserve but be ready and willing to play it to it's fullest if/when it looks like it will help get Maddy the care she deserves.

5) MEDIA - hmmmm, another of those double edged swords, I can see it realy helping and at the same time once in the spotlight they may proceed slowly to avoid making documented mistakes. (back to the lawyer thing)

The best you can do for your family is to be strong and be the firm advocate for Maddy's care.

Does sound like at some point in time the lawyers will be involved so SAVE AND DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!

You are all in our prayers and thoughts!!!

Hey Kenny,

I am so sorry to hear about this situation. I think you've gotten some really good advise. Dealing with any city/county/state run health organization can be such a pain, everything moves as a snail's pace. It's taken over 2 years for my fiance to finally get the medication he needs through the county health, it is the most frustrating system and does not seem to be set up to actually help people. I really hope that things start moving forward for you and your dear Maddy. You'll be in my thoughts. Stay strong,
-April
