Black milk clutch

Dniles Jul 21, 2009 05:33 AM

Well the moose stikes again...this year its 15 eggs. She's produced 11, 19, 14 and 15 eggs in each of the last 4 years. I think she deserves next year off!

great stuff, great snake, good looking eggs....congrats

...as for a year off...I would ask what it does to the female....???....will it screw her up worse ?....ask people who breed alot of big snakes....Bell, Barczyck, whittington and Shannon B. come to mind....she may lay anyways ....so why waste the year/ovum.....

anyways...feed her well....I'm sure she's ready for a rabbit again now....LOL..............(actually rabbit are low fat high proteins.....).....(and they come in all sizes)....

...good luck..!!

I don't know...it may not do anything but it seems like pumping out eggs like that every year would take a toll on her somehow. I can use next year to get her body weight where it needs to be, not like that's ever really a problem with her. lol

...her weight is not a problem as you said...
yes it takes a toll...
yes wild snakes and captives do it, as she has been doing it for years...

corns here will lay if I brumate or not , breed or not, they double usually no matter what....

I am just thinking of the timing....I changed timing on some snakes before and screwed them up for awhile...I brumated campbelli one year (after not for years and getting triple clutches for years from more than one female)...and never got an egg again till I got tired of it and sold them../..I know pueblan and blacks are not even close to the same thing....

.....I don't think you can hurt her laying once a year....twice maybe.....

...ask others.........I was hoping they'd reply here, but with my name on a thread it always seems to stop at that line .....

GOOD LUCK.....

Way to go Dave! And way to go Moose!

Do incubate your black milk eggs any different than your Hondos? I keep all mine in the incubator at about 78 to 80 degrees. Everything seems to hatch about the same. Maybe the blacks take closer to 70-75 days vs. the 62-70 days on the Hondos.

Yep, I do the same thing you do Rob. 78 - 80 degrees and it does take around 10 days longer than hondos, sinaloans and other milks.

Awesome picture by the way. is that from this year?

Dave:

Pic was from two years ago. I had a whole series of pictures from that peeking albino Hondo. Thanks!

I'm still two or three weeks away from my first stuff hatching. My first clutch of Hondos was laid on June 5.

Very nice Dave. That big girl can lay down some eggs can't she! Wow.

mrkent Jul 21, 2009 11:24 PM

Great news Dave! I can't remember if I asked you how long the incubation is.

Hey Kent,

Now the waiting takes place...its usually about 70 - 75 days for them to hatch...a long 70 - 75 days I might add.
