New Clutch Hatching

Conserving_herps Jul 21, 2009 06:04 PM

This clutch came from a male hypo extreme and a female ghost.

Well, today is exactly 60 days since they were laid and are starting to peek. Seven eggs originally were laid and it looks two dried out completely, but five are good.

Three are peeking already...two hypos and one ghost...not sure yet if they are going to show the extreme line. The other two eggs are just showing dimples.

I will post new pics in a day or two.

Thanks,

Ray

Very nice Ray. Definately post pics when they emerge. I'd be interested to see if any extremes did pop out.

Thanks Dave. Hard to tell yet if the hypos are extremes or not, the bands look purpulish instead of the grey-greenish bands that you find in other extremes...but their eyes seem to be ruby red in color. I'll have to take them outside and see their eyes against normal light. The ghost is the lightest in shade I have ever produced.

I've posted more pics a couple of lines down (responding to Rusty's posting).

Thanks again for your ccmpliment. Btw, your adult black milksnake is out of this world!!!Awesome!

I really hope that ghost is an extreme. Good luck.

Hey Ray,

That's awesome...did you have any idea the Extreme male was poss. het Anery?

Either way...it's awesome to prove something out!

Do you have photographs of the parents?

Congrats man!

Hey Rusty,

Thanks for your threadline. I forgot to mention in my initial posting that the male extreme is definitely het anery (bought it from Mike Falcon). The female ghost was bought from Kevin Hanley. Not sure what lineage my ghost came from or if she has any traces of extreme lineage.

The male hypo extreme is now a proven breeder. He had slugs with the girls last year...but this year, finally broke through with this female ghost and another female snow.

Pics of the parents below. Thanks again for your compliment as well.

Nice looking clutch Ray.

I would say by the photos that the ghost is just a nice light one.I would call it a ultra light ( would indicate that it has extreme blood in it) and the hypos look like ultra lights as well.

I am still waiting on my big extreme girl to lay her clutch.Real late this year but I still have four or five hondos to go.

Thanks Rusty,
I have several weird aberrant ones to play with next year.I am not sure what male I like better between him or this one.The are from the same crazy line.

the first one you showed...something about the contrast and the stripe width...it's kinda hard to quantify.

Both are really interesting...exciting project for sure!

Hey Ray,

I don't know what you want to call that Ghost...but it is top notch in my book...especially if it's a female...my guess...Ghosts that look that good are MALE!

Either way...it's a holdback forsure...please post the entire clutch when you can...really killer stuff!

-Rusty

Conserving_herps Jul 24, 2009 06:15 PM

That killer ghost turns out to be FEMALE !

In a couple of years, I can breed her back to her father (the extreme het anery) or the male that I got from Terry in 2007. If you recall, Terry Maheuron had this single clutch fathered by what he called the "mystery hypo" containing a ghost extreme, a real Pearl, and some albinos. I got one of the albinos who is almost 2 years old now and should be ready to breed next year. That albino is definite het hypo but just possibly anery. So, it would be interesting which route I should pair her with...her father, the hypo extreme het anery or the albino from Terry that is het hypo extreme but just possibly het anery....hmmm, at least I have 2 years to think about it.

Btw, the other 2 siblings (ultra light hypo extremish) het anery are both males. Not sure if I should hold one back or not. But as far as the female ghost hatchling, definitely a holdback.

Thanks man...

later...

Yep, I know exactly which snake you are reffering to...saw them all in person!

You have a KILLER Ghost there sir!!!!!!!

Breed it to the one you got from Terry M. !!!

TRUST ME! : )

You can always breed it back to the father at some other point...the "prove out clutches" are so much more exciting!

I'd really like to see this female Ghost in 3 months...please keep us posted!

-Rusty

Conserving_herps Jul 26, 2009 03:23 PM

Yes, I should breed her with the albino that I got from Terry M. He is actually of breedable size now but didn't want to push him with females a lot bigger than he is...but he is growing fast and would be a big papa by next year.

You are absolutely right about breeding the ghost with him...as I can always breed her back to her father. A great point taken when you said that it is more exciting to "prove out" something.

That ghost extreme that you posted I assume is from Terry M? Man, my ghost looks like that ghost. I posted a new threadline above regarding my ghost hatchling. Please read it and see what you think.

By the way, below is the male albino I got from Terry M. Picture was taken when he was just a juvenile about a year old. I should update his pics. He is definitely much bigger now and has a voracious appetite. Did Terry keep some of his siblings...or did you end up with some of the siblings?

Thanks Rusty. I will post pics of the ghost every 3 months.

later man...

Not many things bring out the same kind/level of excitement in us "snake dorks" as hatching time!

Thanks Cole, it is that peak time of the year for sure that we all look forward time and time again.

How are your breeding projects coming along?
